This web site is meant to be devoted primarily
to African philosophy, or to philosophy in the African context. The Southern Cross has been chosen as its dominant motif
because it is the most prominent and famous of the celestial constellations in the southern hemisphere. It also is associated
with the notions of a crossroad or crossroads, and all they imply about communication within and across cultures. Dante
identified the four points (or stars) of the cross, that the constellation is said to represent, with speculation, innovation,
and critical discussion. These would seem to be a satisfactory basis for a website meant to provide information and
constructive dialogue related to the general heading of African Philosophy.
